Spot Details

Flatwater spot in river channel, subject to tidal flow. Best on ebbing tide. Sketchy launch just upwind of a downed sailboat requires solid upwind skills. Windsurfer area also just downwind of kiter spot. Little baja is your last chance to drop your kite over the levee, otherwise you will have to self rescue and have a crappy swim in. Beware currents can be strong here and can seperate you from your gear in a jiffy. Good smooth water behind the tulles, make sure you are flowing with the kiting traffic and not cockblocking.  Wind is thermal based from the pressure gradient between Sacto and SF and is steady and strong in the summer months. Avoid any winds that come in from the East or North, they will be wicked and gusty. Do not linger or do tricks in front of the take-off area. As soon as you get to the water, get your board on and go. There are separate entrance/exit areas, read the signs to figure it out. Launching can be done from the grassy area by the pavilion or up at the area by the water behind the logs, or even at the water's edge on a very low tide. Be careful launching and going out/coming in here. There is very little room for error. Know your safety system well and be ready to deploy it.
